In my theater classes during our warm-up session, we used to close eyes and experience the surroundings, and one of the routine was to feel like a prince or princess. In my case, to feel like a prince, I was instructed to lift my chin up and push chest in forward direction and act as a prince. During this session, I used to feel like a prince, it was wonderful, I felt powerful and strong. The prince walks royally because he is high with self esteem, extremely confident and powerful. This is the power of self esteem. If you feel good about yourself, you do things more confidently. Your mental status guides your physical body, so always keep your self esteem high. The following are few simple steps to build self esteem:
Dress well. Buy good clothes even if it costs little more than regular clothes. The majority of people judge a person by his attire. If a person is in shabby clothes, he is treated with less respect. Imagine the President of the nation in shabby clothes; would you keep your confidence on him to rule the country? This is not only true for The President, but it is applicable to common man as well.
Be Punctual. Never be late. Plan a little ahead and manage to be on time for any event or even at your office.
Offer help. This is very simple if you are in a corporate environment. Everyone is inundated with lot of work, your little help can create miracles.
The above three steps are few of the many ways to build self esteem. The common concept behind all these steps is to feel good. As we are social beings, the feel-good factor is highly dependent on others. In all the above steps, all the acts make you feel good about yourself, hence it enhances your self esteem. The most critical aspect of developing self esteem is honesty. If you are not honest, none of the above steps will work. Our feelings define our body language and the better you feel, the more positive attitude you develop.
