In last post I mentioned about Sit Down Life Lifestyle, we will go bit further about dreams in this post. All of us have dreams. Few have a dream car, dream girl, dream lifestyle, dream job, etc. Although all of us have these wonderful things in our head, very few proceed and achieve their dream. I presented a discussion between two people (A and B), who are discussing about achieving dream life..

A: What is stopping you to achieve your dream life?

B: Dude! I have too many commitments; after lot of struggle I settled now, and I cannot afford to leave this life. I have to stick to this. I cannot risk my career. I don’t have so much money to achieve my dream target. No matter what I do, achieving my dream target seems close to impossible in this life. I guess I have to lead a compromised life, it sucks, but I have no option. This looks impossible. My life sucks, I suck, life is cruel.

A: Basically you listed several reasons why you cannot achieve your dream life, strengthened your argument with more facts and concluded that there is no way you can achieve your dream target. How about doing it the other way? List all the reasons why you can achieve your dream target and then list how you would plan to reach your target and then conclude that you already travelled 50% of your journey because you already created a destination map.

B: Listen! Even though I list all the things and I create a map, etc, I still can’t get there. It’s just too risky.

A: Looks like if I discuss for five more minutes, I will give all my optimism and become like you – completely lifeless. Why do you want to choose a compromised life instead of few daring attempts? Why not give it a try? Why not take a few calculative risks?

B: It’s easy said done, my life will be disaster if I fail. You don’t know, it’s not so easy.

A: Shut up! What do you mean by a disaster?

B: I don’t know, I will have no money, no girl friend…

A: Will you be begging for food?

B: Not exactly

A: Exactly! You don’t have to beg. Do me a favor and write down all the worse things which can happen to you if you take a calculative risk. You hold Bachelors Degree in Nuclear Physics, but it is your dream to become a model and blaze the ramp. Dude! It’s funny; btw… your combination of physics and model don’t go together.

B: Ok, If I quit my job and start pursuing my dreams to become model, the following worst things can happen to me:

1. I have to quit my job, so no income.

2. My girl friend might dump me

3. I cannot shop Armani anymore

4. I may not go on vacations

5. Uhm… I guess, that’s it.

A: Ok, great! So what did you find out?

B: I found that my life is a disaster if I quit my job. Life is a bitch, why is it so hard on me?

A: Dude! First of all, if you quit your job now, you can survive 5 – 6 months at least without problems. I am not asking to quit your job immediately, I am asking to take a calculative risk. Plan properly and then take risks.

Second, if your girl friend dumps you because you don’t have a job, then you better dump her now. Of course think twice is she is super hot.

Your shopping and traveling are luxuries. So to summarize, there is no disaster, you are still fine, you still survived. You didn’t start begging, and no one is laughing at you because you are roaming on roads with torn clothes. In the worst case scenario, if nothing works, you can get back to your Nuclear Reactor Physics job, it might take some time to get your job back, but you are educated man, someone would give you a job. You will still survive. Now, this is the worst case scenario, now look at the positive side of the spectrum. What if you were able to achieve your dreams? If you became a model, then forget about shopping in Armani Store, they will come to you to try their clothes. You can be a brand ambassador of Brioni and Armani. You achieved your dreams, now you are living the life of your dreams.

B: Oh yeah! My life is not disaster, life is beautiful. I will quit my job right now and start pursuing my dreams.

A: Easy tiger! I said, take calculative risk, not risk. There is hair line difference between being bold and stupid, so be bold. Good Luck.

End of the story.
